A Trip to the Temples of the Ancient City of Ephesus

We may be in the modern world but once you visit the beautiful city of Ephesus, the attraction all around you will bring you back to ancient times where famous rulers of the ancient world have lived. The remains of the different fountains, temples and other very important landmarks are still standing.

Because of the rich history and magnificent attraction all over this city, many tourists from around the world love visiting Ephesus. Here are some of the best tourist attractions in this Turkish city that you should never miss:

The Temple of Artemis is a very popular attraction in Ephesus. In fact, it has become one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This temple is also known as the Temple of Diana and is truly a beauty. This was built and dedicated to the Greek goddess Artemis. This whole temple was made of marble excluding the roof, though as of today, only its sculptural fragments and its foundation only remains.


The Temple of Hadrian or the Temple of Hadrianus is a very popular and very recognizable landmark of the city. It was named after Emperor Hadrianus. A carving of a half-nude woman surrounded by acanthus leaves can be found at the arched tympanum over the main portal which many people identifies as Medusa. One can also notice the inscriptions on the columns of the names of Artemis, Publius Quintilius, Hadrian, as well as the goddess Tyche which is believed to protect the city.

The Temple of Domitian was built in dedication to Emperor Domitian. It measures 50 by 100 meters on the south side of Domitian Square. However, there is nothing much left of this temple but one can notice that the architecture is truly an impressive work.
