August 4th 2010 08:10
Holiday accidents can be something we do not want to happen, for holidaying is all about fun, enjoyment, and more. Although you are holidaying abroad, you must take note then that you can still make holiday claims especially if your accident was because of a third party and this include trips and slips due to uneven floors, unclean or defective floors. However, for you not to ruin your holiday vacation, it is still important that you take care.

The Common Holiday Accidents

With the various accidents that can possibly to happen while holidaying, below are some of the most common.

o Accident in the water – this type of accident is common to those who are involve in water sports.
o Road Accidents - this type is common to someone driving who is not familiar with the foreign country’s road sign.
o Outdoor Pursuits/ Sporting Accidents – this holiday accident is common to those who are into extreme sports like mountain climbing, skiing, hiking and biking to name a few.
o Sunstroke – as the name suggests, this is due to the excessive exposure to sunlight.
o Food Poisoning – this can be due to improper preparation of food, poor cooking, and contaminated drinking water.
o Foot Injuries – tourists who usually got this type of holiday accident are those who use to walk barefoot on beaches and walkways.
o Airplane accident – accidents like this can happen while on board on to and from your destination.
o Ferry or cruise line accident – accident of this type can happen on-board

Always keep in mind that even though the abovementioned are common, they can still be prevented if you will take extra care and take precautions.

Now that we already know the common Holiday Accidents, one must note though that there are also limitations for holiday accident claims. In general, a personal injury claim made through the US courts for a holiday accident caused by a UK company, the claim must be made within three years after the accident happens. Other than that, limitations applied.

Injuries on an Aircraft – some International conventions include travel by air in their coverage and if this is the case, limits in making claims will be 2 years from the accident date.

Injuries on a Boat / Ship – just like injuries on an aircraft, making claims will also be limited to 2 years if conventions apply as well.

Injuries on a Train – in this case if convention applies the time limit for making claim is 3 years. On the other hand, if the accident is fatal, 3 years from death or 5 years after the accident happens whichever is earlier.
