More and more people are choosing to holiday in the Peak District, this fascinating place, made up of two distinct areas, the White Peak, and the Dark Peak, is an absolute haven for walkers and geologists alike. The two names for the opposite ends of the Peak District have come about because of their Geologic nature. The white Peak area is named as such because of the Whitish ,lime stone which protrudes from the surface of the moor, whilst the Dark peak is so named because of the dark and coarse sandstone which is visible through the rough and dark peat in the south of the Peak District.
This beautiful National Park covers an amazing five hundred and forty square miles, and is one of the largest National Parks in the country. It is a remarkable rural spot which is wonderful for exploring by foot or by bicycle. You will find that there are a multitude of delightful pubs in which to quench your thirst and satiate your appetite whilst out walking and cycling, and if you are more inclined to visit some of the local attractions, then the Roman Spa town of Buxton, and the decadent Stately Home of Chatsworth House are all within shooting distance.
If you think that this sounds like your idea of heaven, then you should have a look online to decide whether any of the delightful peak district holidays appear to be the sort of thing that would keep you smiling for a week or two.
