Some travel, some drinking in Ireland

May 21st 2008 23:33
Arriving in Dublin, day one. You expect to be tired, jet lagged and the like, but wait. Nothing and i mean nothing stops your exhausted mind and body from getting out of that hostel/hotel and walking around a beautiful city that inspires everyone from the moment you lay your eyes on it.

It takes all but a few hours before your in your first pub - the beggining of the addiction. You may not meet an local irish person for a good few hours as there is alot of tourist from all over the globe, if your really desperate you can go into the nearest souvonier shop and get your dose of the irish accent.

From traditional irish music on the streets of Temple Bar to the echoing sounds from the city tour bus you are in the beat of Dubllin, drawn in by the smiles of all and the open arm feeling this city has created for itself. With much to see and do, every thing is at a stones throw from your bedroom door.

The Book of Kells at the Trinity College a must see, from the ancient texts you are again thrown into another world that this city has to offer. The library amongst the most sacred you will ever see.

What are you waiting for, get that plane, join the "craic" of Ireland and you will never in a day regret the decision. I promise.

hi iv just read your blog iv lived in ireland 11 years now and it has been really good to me ,in terms of buisness and making a few quid. but didnt you think it was megga expensive? DRINKING IS SECOND NATURE HERE , but during the day in the city there is a buzz the cafe bars and the wine bars are great, the food is probably the best in europe the up and coming chefs are returning from their travels and opening resteraunts in every hotel. Also the irish pastime is spending at least 300 euros or more on a night in a fab eaterie with good company. The other favorite irish pastime is spending time in the spa s in most hotels. in every county the most magnificent spas worth millions are springing up all over. Way ahead in alternative therapys , even 10 years ago alternative living was way ahead than the brits, thats not hard to do though.sorry all my fellow brits out there. If you decide to visit again get a map and hire a car and dont forget the jamesons guide to the best B/B S and resteraunts of ireland, fil her up and away ya go .

linzi, absoloutly agree!!!!! my time there was not as long as 11 years - wish it were me. Expensive yes, but all worth it. Every venue wether it be cafe, pub or the like had such an amazing vibe and all varying from one to the next, you could chill or be chilled in every part of the word. Map and car went hand in hand for me, yet i did it on the west cost.. stand by for more blogs. Will be looking into the jamesons guide when i head back!, thanks for the tip.

Fantastic post -- I love Ireland and all it's pubs -- and the scenery!
