The Sinulog Festival: Fluvial Parade

The Queen City of the South, Cebu, celebrates annually the Sinulog Festival which is popularly known worldwide as a colorful and very enjoyable festival. Millions of people watched the mardis gras the whole day last January 16, 2011. Thousands of people from other countries have also witnessed this memorable celebration, others even dancing to the beat of the Sinulog festival music.
The Sinulog is a festival held annually every third Sunday of January. It is a dance ritual showing the Cebuano’s acceptance of Roman Catholicism which gives high honor to the child Jesus which is popularly known as the Santo Nino (Holy Child). It is very similar to the Ati-atihan festival of Kalibo, Aklan that is also celebrated annually every January. It concludes in the third Sunday of the month.
Here are some pictures of the very enjoyable, colorful and memorable fluvial parade. Every expectator can't avoid to appreciate the differently sized and colorful motor boats. The boat of the Santo Niño is adorned with fresh flowers and heads through a procession from Mandaue to Cebu City. The fluvial parade is one of the highlights of the Sinulog festival which is held every third Saturday of January, a day before the day of the festival.
