The Taal Volcano Alert Is Up
June 8th 2010 16:36
The Taal Volcano is one of the famous tourist spots in the Philippines. It is located between the towns of Talisay and San Nicolas in the province of Batangas. It is one of the active volcanoes in the country.
According to Wikipedia, it was formed by the subduction of the Eurasian Plate which is under the Philippine Mobile Belt. Yahoo News reports that recently, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has informed the public that a possible eruption may occur. The institute therefore advised those who live nearby to transfer to a safer place. The alert level has now been increased to 2 from its previous level of 1. Phivolcs explains that this means that the volcano is “undergoing magmatic intrusion which could eventually lead to an eruption.”
